Paddles

Austin to Keosauqua Paddle

The paddle will be held from 10:00 am until approximately 2:00 pm starting at the Austin Park Campgrounds in Van Buren County. Participants will stop several times to learn about the animals, history, and geology of the river. If you have your own canoe or kayak you are more than welcome to bring your own. The paddle is open to everyone, however children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This is an official Des Moines River Water Trails event cosponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Van Buren County Conservation. The Des Moines River Water Trail is one of 19 official water trails in Iowa.

Registration is REQUIRED.


Dates: June 13th,2025 at 10 am and June 20th,2025 at 10 am

​Geode Paddle

Geodes are nature’s treasure chest! Participants will be paddling this beautiful stretch of river between stops on the sandbars as we search for geodes. Participants will learn about the geology of the river, why we can find geodes in that particular stretch of river, and how geodes form. The paddle is open to everyone, however children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Paddle registration is limited to 10 boats. Van Buren County Conservation has several canoes which participants may pre-register to borrow.
